Principal's Message
Dear Wapato Middle School Families:
I am excited to again serve as the Principal of Wapato Middle School. I am blessed with the opportunity to serve the Wapato learning and teaching community during the 2019-2020 school year. I also look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at Wapato Middle School.
Our motto for the upcoming school year is: Always Giving My Best. We will ask ourselves daily if we are giving our best effort. We will always seek excellence and improvement in our daily tasks. We intend to build meaningful relationships with every student and their family at Wapato Middle School. We will motivate students to seek excellence as they experience the Wapato Middle School way. Our students will be excited with their learning, utilizing a partnership with parents and the community of Wapato. As we prepare our students for high school and beyond they will be motivated to excel in their future endeavors.
Wapato middle school has a history of great administrators and leaders. Our administrative team, staff, and support-staff are committed to excellence and using a strong, established foundation to move Wapato middle school to the next level. Together we will continue to provide outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence for all of our students.
The middle school offers a variety of extracurricular activities, clubs and sports. In addition to offering quality instruction and academic rigor, we believe participation in extracurricular activities allows each student to export his or her interests and forge meaningful relationships with other students. We strongly encourage all students to participate in one of our many clubs or an after school sport. Research indicates that students who are involved in after school activities are more successful academically than students who are not…my simple suggestion is “Get Involved”!
As partners in this quest for excellence we encourage all parents to be involved, around the clock, with their child’s school life. Here are a few suggestions that have been proven to help students reach their potential:
- Establish a daily family routine
Find a time and a quiet place for homework, have a set bedtime, try to have one meal together each day
- Monitor activities
Set limits on ‘screen time’ (computer use, gaming, television), make sure there is appropriate supervision for after school and weekend activities
- Realize you are being watched by your children at all times
Model the behaviors and values you would like them to exhibit, explain your decisions and the reasons behind them
- Have high expectations, set realistic goals
Encourage his/her talents and interests, talk positively about your child to others
- Stay informed about your child’s progress in school
Communicate with teachers regularly, check with your child for daily homework assignments, utilize Skyward for grade and assignment information.
- Encourage reading
Sit and read alongside your child each night, listen to your child read aloud to you
Once school begins, you will find our administrative team visible on campus during morning arrivals, afternoon dismissals, and throughout the day. I look forward to the opportunity to meet and continue my relationship with the students, staff, and families of the Wapato community.
I can be reached via email at [email protected] or just stop by to introduce yourself any time as my door is always open to you.
Sincerely,
Scott Wells
