A partnership with Heritage University is giving Wapato Middle School students computer programming experience and it is paying off. Thanks to Middle School teachers Elizabeth Fries and Brett Carr every 8th grade student was taught the program which was sponsored by Heritage University MESA First Nation. At the end of the first practice module any students that wanted could form a team to participate in a regional competition held at Heritage on April 30th. The Middle School fielded 10 teams. Their task was to create an innovative product to solve a real world problem using sensors they programmed. Four of the teams made it to the finals and in the end the Middle School had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place team. The first place team has qualified to go onto to compete at State at Microsoft in Redmond, WA in mid-May. The first place team consists of David Iturbide, Anthony Zacateco, and Santiago Garcia. The second place team includes Kevin Sereno, Atalya Garcia, Searra Rodriguez, and Yaritzy Ochoa and the third place team members are Thompson Parrish, Tyron Garcia, Mya Morales, and Carolina Chino. Congratulations to all the Middle School students who represented Wapato so well at regionals and GOOD LUCK to those heading to State.
